We are bringing back an American original.

The loss of a keystone species has left a literal gap in America’s eastern forests.
The time has come for the return of the American Chestnut!

American Chestnut Restoration is committed to the revival of the iconic American chestnut tree, a species once abundant in our forests. We employ innovative biotechnologies to address the challenges this tree faces, ensuring it can thrive once again in its native ecosystem. Join us in taking action today to make a meaningful difference for the future of our forests and biodiversity.

Who We Are

American Chestnut Restoration is a dedicated group of scientists, conservationists, foresters, and volunteers focused on reintroducing the American chestnut to eastern U.S. forests. Originating from the New York Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation, we are committed to revitalizing this essential tree species nearly wiped out by chestnut blight in the early 1900s. Using innovative biotechnology, including the oxalate oxidase (OxO) gene, we promote disease tolerance in the Darling line of trees, ensuring their survival.
